There are days when time seems to press down on us and the cult of speed permeates every second of our lives.
Professional activity is, in many cases, extremely demanding. We are constantly doing something—handling tasks, solving problems—both at work and at home, where we must also care for our families and many other things. It feels as if we never stop, and time just isn’t enough.
That’s a mistake; we need daily time for ourselves—for contemplation, for turning inward—to find our inner peace and to calmly perceive what surrounds us: a landscape, people, a conversation, a book, and to enjoy the gift of the present moment, the here and now. This is the way to regain balance and be able to offer the best of ourselves to those around us.
A wonderful way to slow down our lives, to do something for ourselves that enriches us and helps us move at a gentler pace, is to make time for daily reading. There are so many wonderful books to choose from—classic or contemporary, prose or poetry, literature or theater, historical novels or essays.
On June 30th, a very hot Monday in Barcelona at the end of the month, just after the San Juan festivities—which marks the end of the school year and the beginning of summer holidays—it wasn’t the most ideal day for a book presentation, especially not at 7:00 in the evening. And yet, that was the day when Luján and I presented “Life Beyond Life”, our latest book published by Editorial Kairós.
This book could be classified as educational literature or self-help, characterized by its reflective and instructive nature. Its main goal is to share and highlight experiences of patients who have had near-death experiences, as well as the reflections of doctors regarding the experiences of their patients.
We are deeply grateful to all the attendees, as the presentation exceeded all expectations. It was a complete success—not just because the room in the heart of Barcelona was packed—but also because of the support, warmth, and love we received from everyone present. You could feel it in the air.
Casa del Libro stayed open later than usual, hoping in vain for the line of people waiting for book signings to end. We eventually stepped out into the street, followed by that same line of people still waiting for a signature.
We couldn’t enter any venue due to the large number of people. And so, to our surprise and surrounded by so much love, we continued talking and signing books while sitting on a bench on Rambla Catalunya, drawing the curiosity and amazement of passersby.
We feel nothing but gratitude—immense gratitude—for all who joined us that day: such warm, affectionate, and endearing people.
The general sentiment was that, for a few hours, time stood still. It was a time beyond time. People enjoyed simply being present, with no rush—just the joy of company and conversation.
Let’s be more intentional in creating spaces like this and helping each other grow, to find peace and harmony in a world that often seems to want us restless, anxious, or irritable.
For those who read the book, I hope it helps you cultivate more of those timeless moments and find answers that lead to a joyful life aligned with the true transcendence of the human spirit.
