I looked down at myself on the stretcher

Miguel Ángel Pertierra is a Doctor of Medicine and Surgery, an ENT specialist, researcher, Schriftsteller, and a respected figure within the medical community in Spain. In 2007, he suffered a traffic accident that resulted in severe trauma. During that episode, er erlebte eine Nahtoderfahrung (NTE), the details of which he still remembers vividly today.

He spent nine months in silence without speaking about what he had experienced — a common reaction among those who undergo NDEs. Gleichzeitig, as a physician, he wanted to verify the medications he had received in order to rule out the possibility that what he experienced had been caused by them. After accepting and confirming that he had indeed undergone an NDE, he began discussing the subject within a very limited circle, seeking to protect himself from the stereotypes and prejudices of the time, especially within a hospital environment where rational and scientific methods prevail. Several years passed before he publicly shared his testimony.

Here is his testimony
