He was born 24 april 1948 in the Municipality of Suaza, Department of Huila, Colombia. Nationalized Mexican in the year 2011. electrical engineer, with a master's degree in Pure Physics and a Ph.D in Sciences. He carried out post-doctorates in microbial genomics. He spent his entire professional career at New York University. He completed postdoctoral degrees in microbial genomics.. Some recognitions and decorations received by Dr..
