A revolutionary new theory suggests that consciousness is not located in the brain

The origin of human consciousness is one of the great mysteries about man. That's why, neuroscience does not rest in the search for answers to know what happens to consciousness when we die or where it resides exactly.

This last question seems to have found a possible answer as a result of a new study carried out in England.

The consensus among experts on human consciousness, is that it resides in the brain and in the dense network of neural connections, but the exact location was still unknown so the recent study provides a revealing answer.

A team of researchers from the University of Surrey, Led by Professor Johnjoe McFadden, published the new theory in the journal Neuroscience of Consciousness. Over there, specialists stated that consciousness is not found in the brain but in the electromagnetic energy generated by electrical impulses shared between neurons.

The study suggests that human consciousness, the most complex product of nervous activity in the body, not found in our brain, but rather in the electromagnetic field of this organ. “Consciousness is the experience of nerves connecting to the brain's self-generated electromagnetic field to guide what we call 'free will'.’ and our voluntary actions”, assured McFadden.

The scientist explained that the electrical signals of the neurons, responsible for brain functions, form an electromagnetic field detectable by electroencephalogram and magnetoencephalography.

This field would be the real nucleus of consciousness since thoughts reside in it., movements and mental processes of each human being. The researcher is convinced that this could lead to the development of consciousness in robots.

McFadden described his hypothesis as the conscious electromagnetic information field theory in which he proposes that consciousness is physically integrated and active information encoded in the global electromagnetic field of the brain.. He also argued that consciousness implements algorithms in space., instead of in time, within the electromagnetic field of the brain.

Nevertheless, the researcher added that there are still many unanswered questions, as the degree and extent of synchrony necessary to encode conscious thoughts, or the influence of drugs and anesthetics on the conscious electromagnetic information field.

The theory proposed by the new research provides a new paradigm in which consciousness is embedded in a physical structure., measurable and malleable, and amenable to experimental tests. Therefore, offers a dualism that is built on the distinction between matter and energy, instead of matter and spirit.

Other recent studies on the human brain, demonstrated that it reaches its maximum productivity at 35 years. And that speak other languages, as often as possible, makes the individual a more intelligent being. Secondly, also revealed that the brain begins its deterioration from the 45 years.
